Final tutu for 2012

I posted this off a week or so ago, but it's the last tutu I will complete this year (although I have started a couple for next year already). White double lycra with white net, lots of metallic gold scrolls and AB and gold jewels and sequins.

My first YAPG tutu! Harliquinade variation.

I was very excited to receive a request from a lady in Phoenix, Arizona, for a tutu for he daughter to wear at The Youth America Grand Prix. She sent me the design and colours and this is how it turned out. I was really happy with the way it looked. Unfortunately I only took a few photos with my phone, not the camera, so I hope I get several of Alexa wearing it!

Girls 10 tutu for sale

And yet another tutu! Double white lycra leotard with stiff white net to the skirt. The overskirt is made of super glittery net, backed with more net for strength and edged with silver sequin braid.I have listed it as a girls 10, but it would fit a larger 8 year old, or a small 12 year old, email for measurements if you need more info.

Girls 6 tutu for sale.

Another of Sharon's tutus. Pale pink double lycra leotard with pale pink net. Under the top net layer is gold glitter tulle, so it sparkles beautifully. It has been decorated with soft gold scalloped braid and motifs with the addition of sequins and diamanties. Matching net and tulle sleeves come with it. $275.

Ready made tutus for sale

I have recently bought several tutus made by my friend Sharon. Some I have totally decorated, others I have only tweaked slightly. They are all brand new. They are less expensive than custom made tutus and I can make matching tiaras for all of them if wanted. The red and black one is a Ladies Medium (about a Ladies 12) double lycra leotard and alternating layers of red and black stiff net. I bought the stunning overskirt fabric on ebay years ago, and have been waiting for the right tutu to put it on. It REALLY sparkles under lights! $350.
This one is turquoise and silver (it looks blue here but it is turquoise) with accents of jade green. The overskirt is only pinned on in these photos, so ignore the pins. It is a girls 14/Ladies small. I can give measurements if wanted.

Tutu sewing classes

All tutu making classes in Woodend are now booked out. I will try to run a few more later in the year IF I can fit them in around all the orders I have. HOWEVER, there are still a few spots available for the Tutus that Dance seminars in Melbourne and Sydney, some classes are full but not yet all of them. Details here http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e6fnp37y87a5cd3a&llr=qfcjqzkab I am off to my final end of year dance concert tonight, and I have been to quite a few! I have seen some wonderful choreography, costumes and dancers, but I think my favourite memory will be the baby bunny who refused to let go of the giant carrot that ALL the baby bunnies were supposed to get to hold and nibble on before passing it on. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Booked solid!

Due to the amount of orders I already have for next year, I will only be accepting new orders for tutus needed after the end of April 2013. There are only so many hours in the day, and most of February will be taken up with organizing and helping run the "Tutus that Dance" seminars in Melbourne and Sydney. If you have already contacted me with an order, then you are on the list. Email me if you want to double check.

Tutu making weekends in Woodend and Tutus that Dance Seminar in Melbourne 2013

DATES FOR TUTU MAKING WEEKENDS IN WOODEND....finally! I have finally emerged from under a pile of net and have worked out some dates for teaching tutu making. I can fit four people comfortably and five at a pinch in my studio in Woodend, about an hours drive from Melbourne. Classes will run for two full days (9-5) with lunch provided. Cost is $350 if you bring your own lycra and net, $425 if I supply it and precut and gather the net for you. Also included in the price are elastic, interfacing, nude lycra, basic trims and all materials to make a headpiece. Dates I am offering are 20/21 October, 10/11 November, 8/9 December, 15/16 December and 12/13 January. If anyone would prefer midweek and can rustle up a couple of friends who want to come at the same time, I am quite happy to accommodate you. Email me at danilegge@me.com to book a spot. EXCITING NEWS!! TUTUS THAT DANCE SEMINAR IN MELBOURNE. Suzanne Dieckmann from Las Vegas, is planning to run one of her amazing seminars in Melbourne in February 2013. Dates, location and classes are still being finalised but will include traditional and stretch tutu making (I will be teaching the stretch part). As Woodend is an hour from Melbourne by car and has limited accommodation and public transport options, anyone coming from interstate may prefer to attend my stretch classes here, there will be places for around 20 students and of course the option to attend classes in traditional tutu making as well. To register interest or for more details, email suzanne@tutusthatdance.com

Tutus, tutus, tutus!

Been working flat out since I got back to complete orders for upcoming comps. These were all finished this week. Still got one more to finish off, then two more to make, then I might be able to think about running some classes.
This saphire blue and cream tutu was designed totally by its 13 year old owner, I was very impressed with Tahlia's ideas. I only posted it to her today, so hope it is exactly what she was envisaging.

Another fabulous "Tutus that Dance" seminar

I arrived home today after nearly two weeks in Las Vegas and I am TIRED! However I had a fantastic time, learned lots, met some wonderful new people and hopefully imparted something to my students. I have just uploaded a heap of photos to Suzanne's blog http://tutuseminar.blogspot.com.au/ but here are a few of my favourites.

Hina modelling a tutu I took over with me to show the new students what they can ll=ook like. Thanks again Piper for letting me borrow your tutu.
Bodice and romantic tutu made in Suzanne's class.

Just received some lovely photos of some of my costumes on their talented owners from the Cairns Eisteddfod. Well done to Madison ( third in classical solo and HM in waltz tap....a great effort as she competed in under 13 and is only 7!) and to Bec who was awarded most promising dancer! I will post photos as soon as I can, can't do it from my iPad, but they are on the Facebook page. If any other clients of mine were there, please let me know......and I love getting photos!

Tutu sewing classes in Las Vegas

I am off to Las Vegas in August to teach stretch tutu making at the Tutus that Dance seminar. Suzanne teaches traditional tutu making and there are also classes in headpiece and tiara making, mens patterns etc. its also lots if fun and you meet great people If anyone is interested in a very intense and comprehensive course, please check out her website www.tutusthatdance.com or her Facebook page tutu seminars. This is what she has to say about it. WHY COME TO A SEMINAR? Like most arts, knowledge and experience are two very major factors. What we are striving to do is offer both by guiding you, step by step thru construction and more importantly explain and showing “the whys and how’s” something is done. It’s not just learning how to make a tutu we’re teaching, but WHY a tutu is made the way it is.  We don’t just focus on a “project” but teaching the art of tutus. Understanding what a dancer needs, how both lighting and distance effects what you choose, the importance of silhouettes, body lines, and the movement of the tutu….just making a “pretty” tutu is not the goal. At a seminar, you’ll learn all this in an intense, short period of time that is designed to teach you as much as possible, efficiently as possible, and answer questions as they come up. Each class has notes printed out, so you don’t have to stop and write as we’re working, you’ll also be able to talk with others, share experiences and hopefully build friendships and form new contacts. More advance classes, will also offer the opportunity to “try” new things, experiment, ask questions, and test things out without the expense of buying all that is needed to do so.  We’ll be practicing airbrushing, dyeing and painting, draping fabric, using stretch fabrics, making appliqués, working on shapes and uses of ruffles and much more. Classes on pattern alteration will show how make alterations both for size and design and how to take a clients measurements and make a custom tutu that fits. Both Women’s fitting and Men’s class will work on real dancers so you can test things out on them as well as ask them questions. So much more useful than learning on a dress form which in most cases is not shaped like a dancer, nor where you can test the movement.  Yes they are long days, and yes there is much to cover, but we do have fun and offer a place to learn the “art of the tutu”.  Hope you can join us~
